What we offer
After joining, our coordinator will put you in touch with an Observer/Tutor. The Tutor will arrange to go out with you and observe your driving/riding, they will provide feedback at the end of each session. These sessions normally last about 1½ hours.
Personal information submitted during the joining process is treated in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018.

The number of sessions required will depend on your experience and driving/riding standard as observed by your tutor.

It will also be determined by the level of commitment and engagement by you the associate.
Not everyone wants to complete the whole process and take the RoSPA test, they just wish to gain guidance and enhance their skills which is fine.

The majority see taking the test and passing as a natural progression, with this being their goal.

Once the Tutor feels you have reached the required standard, you will be recommended for your test.

The test is conducted by the local RoSPA Examiner who is the holder of a Police Class 1 Advanced Driving/Riding qualification.

The test lasts about 90 minutes and involves driving in a variety of settings, including town driving, motorway driving (usually just dual carriageways in Cleveland) and along winding country lanes.

You can book your test at the following link: - Book Test
Taking your test

At some point in the test, either before or after there will be some questions on the Highway Code and Roadcraft. Another book which you may be asked questions on is Know Your Traffic Signs.

Also, there will be some questions on basic vehicle mechanics usually covered by your vehicle handbook.

In order to be successful in the test, not only does the candidate have to be a good driver/rider, but also has to have a detailed knowledge of the theory of advanced driving/riding, which is encapsulated in the book ‘Roadcraft’.
This is the driving ‘bible’ used by all police forces in the UK and is essential reading.
There are 3 levels of pass: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Gold grade is recognised as the highest civilian driving award available to the public in the UK.

So to pass at any level is quite an achievement and one to be extremely proud of.
